Breaking the Ice
By T Blogger | October 23, 2006
I’m going to start this blog with the underlying assumption that no one is going to read it. This seems to be a safe assumption, given the relentless proliferation of these things. I call it “The Tommyblogger” after Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers, and because my first name is Tom. I am too modest to use just my name as a title, but too vain not to use something that more or less includes it.
When I post in this blog I will:
- Use the first person singular (the editorial “we” seems a bit affectatious to me — although, when you think about it, what is more affectatious than using the word “affectatious”?)
- Write about things that interest me. What the hell — it’s my dime.
- Comment about politics, religion and a great many other topics that at one time were considered inappropriate for “polite converation”.
- Rail about the indignities of getting old.
- Post some poetry of mine and often quote some real poets.
There you have it. If the five items above haven’t caused you to grab your mouse in panic, read on!

Stars.
In the night.
Twinkle bright.
Sight?
Inexpressable.
Because?
Even I
Cannot express
I confess
the loveliness of stars.
